Gingerbread ornaments that will last a long time?

In preschool we made these really cool gingerbread men ornaments for our christmas trees. Everything in the recipe was just like regular gingerbread except glue was added so the gingerbreadmen would last a long time. I've been looking for the recipe everywhere and I've been looking online too but I can't find it anywhere. The cookies do get baked, and they really do last a long time, eleven years later it still smells like gingerbread and it looks great too! If someone knows the recipe, can find it, or just knows enough about baking that they could tell me at what point I should add the glue to the gingerbread mixture I would be about the happiest person alive.
